Life Before Thomas Jefferson High School
I was born in Guatemala, Central America and I lived there until the age of three when my parents immigrated to “El Norte” due to violence in our country. I grew up and lived in the L.A./Santa Ana area for the majority of my youth until we moved to Denver. I graduated from Manual High School and began working in DPS in 1997. Since then, I have worked in the elementary, middle, and high school settings in different roles. I have been at TJ since 2014.
“We must be bold enough to challenge inequality, brave enough to speak out against social injustice, and visionary enough to believe we can change our condition as people if we put our collective energies forward.” (Parham, 2001, p. 881 as cited in Hays and Erford, 2014, p.58).
